This weekend I baked a batch of Chorags for the very first time. Chorags are Armenian yeast rolls that are mildly sweet and meant to be eaten with strong coffee, I like to have them warm and smothered with butter and jam. I ate these quite often as a child when visiting my great aunts; they were always baking and even had a few recipes published in a book back in 1970. My aunt scanned the cover and sent it to me along with some recipes. To go along with these yummy sweet buns, I broke out my great grandmother Lucy's Ibrik and made Turkish coffee; also for the first time. This pot (Ibrik) is 100 years old and my big grandma Lucy used to do coffee readings when she finished drinking her coffee, coffee fortune telling is centuries old. Tomorrow I'm going to try it with my friend, hopefully we can get a mythical glimpse into our future.
